There's the squealing of tires
and lovers for hire
trying to make it
through the night


On the corner's a man
playing supply and demand
he's offering pieces of heaven
but you know he is damned

Every dollar he makes
is a dozen dirty dimes
all the while he asks himself
how he isn't doing time

Do you ever get that feeling
of floating above it all?
like tonight is your night
everything's going right
you might stumble but you won't fall

Two lovers fight
each one knows that they are right
nobody gives an inch
or even tries to see the other side

Up all night telling lies
only to realize in the morning
that the love has gone
from their lover's eyes


So now I close my window
and turn out the light
the city's still wide awake

You say there's no night life
